چکیده

Preovulatory release of progesterone has been well established in various species of mammals. In the rat, a remarkable increase in ovarian progesterone secretion at proestrus was first demonstrated by Eto et al.(1962)and confirmed by other workers (Hashimoto et al., 1968) including ourselves (Uchida et al., 1969). The determination of ovarian progestin secretion and plasma LH level on the same laboratory rats bred under the same condition (Miyake, 1968; Kobayashi et al., 1968; Uchida et al., 1969) has demonstrated that the increase in progesterone secretion at proestrus occurs almost concurrently with an increase in plasma LH level. Furthermore, hypophysectomy at 5.00p.m. of the day of proestrus, the time of which is critical for the release of LH in our rats, interrupts the increase of progesterone secretion (Uchida et al., 1969). These data suggest that the increase of progesterone secretion at proestrus depends on the function of the pituitary, most likely the releasing of LH. In the present experiments, various gonadotropins and other pituitary hormones have been examined to elucidate their acute effects on ovarian progestin secretion in the rats hypophysectomized at 5.00p.m. on proestrus in order to see whether LH is a specific factor responsible for the stimulation of progesterone secretion at proestrus.

Neuroendocrine Regulation and Effects of Stress on the Reproductive Function of Female Rats

The knowledge of the control mechanisms of fertility has implications in social (e.g., the option of conception or anti-conception in humans, populational control, and therapeutic development), economic (e.g., improvement of the fertility of domestic or captive wild species to provide food and clothing) and environmental (e.g., maintenance or reestablishment of ecosystems equilibrium, environme...

Effects of Hydro-alcoholic Extract of Red Dried Stigmas of Crocus sativus L. Flowers (saffron) on the Levels of Pituitary-ovary Hormones and Folliculogenesis in Rats

Background In the present study the effects of a hydro-alcoholic saffron (Crocus sativus) extract on pituitary-ovary axis and folliculogenesis were investigated. The aim was to study the possible role of saffron in female fertility and thereby show its usefulness in treating infertility and reproductive disorders in females. MaterialsAndMethods The study consisted of 50 adult female Sprague daw...

Equine luteinizing hormone possesses follicle-stimulating hormone activity in hypophysectomized female rats.

The ability of equine luteinizing hormone (eLH) to promote follicular growth and maturation in hypophysectomized rats has been assessed. A single injection of equine LH has been shown to promote the growth of a large number of antral and preovulatory follicles. In addition, equine LH markedly increased serum estrogen levels and uterine weight. Furthermore, equine LH, like equine chorionic gonad...

Effects of Crocin on The Pituitary-Gonadal Axis and Hypothalamic Kiss-1 Gene Expression in Female Wistar Rats

Background: Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) is traditionally used as a spice for coloring and flavoring in cooking in some countries. One of the main component of saffron is Crocin. Recent researches have shown Crocin has various pharmacological effects. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Crocin on the Pituitary-Gonadal Axis and Kiss-1 gene expression in hypothalamus and also ovarian...

Stage-Specific Expression of Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase-Activating Polypeptide Type I Receptor Messenger Ribonucleic Acid During Ovarian Follicle Development in the Rat1.

Expression of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), a neuropeptide with considerable homology to vasoactive intestinal peptide, has been shown to be stimulated by gonadotropins in the ovary. The present studies further evaluated the cell-type specific expression and gonadotropin regulation of PACAP type I receptor (PACAPR) messenger RNA in immature rat ovaries and in cultu...
